Applauds pending senate consideration of Kigali Amendment

ARLINGTON, Virginia, United States, 16 September 2022: The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) marked the 35th anniversary of one of the most successful treaties ever negotiated – the Montreal Protocol – by applauding the US Senate leadership for scheduling floor action in the coming week on ratification of that treaty’s most important amendment, the Kigali Amendment. Making the announcement through a Press release, AHRI said ratification will signal continued US support for global environmental protection, while promoting US technological pre-eminence.

“Our member companies, which account for more than USD 256 billion of economic output in the United States alone and which employ more than 300,000 Americans, are very pleased that the Senate will finally consider ratification – a development for which our industry has been waiting – and vigorously advocating for – since the Amendment was agreed to almost exactly six years ago,” said Stephen Yurek, AHRI President & CEO. “Through ratification, the Senate can signal that Kigali counts. It counts for the jobs it will create, it counts for the additional exports that will result, and it counts for U.S. technology pre-eminence.”
