Bill codifies the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SNAP Rules 20 and 21 into California law, AHRI says

Sacramento, California, USA, 12 September 2018: The California State Legislature passed the California Cooling Act (SB 1013), Senator Ricardo Lara’s bill that codifies the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SNAP Rules 20 and 21 into California law, on August 30, AHRI said in a Press communiqué.

The legislation also directs the California Air Resources Board to establish the Fluorinated Gases Emission Reduction Incentive Programme to encourage the adoption of new refrigerant technologies, the communiqué said. The California Cooling Act builds upon Senator Lara’s Super Pollutant Reduction Act of 2016 (S.B. 1383), which memorialised the State’s commitment to reducing HFCs by 40% below 2013 levels by 2030, the communiqué further said.

According to AHRI, while it has maintained a neutral position on SB 1013, the organisation has been closely monitoring the bill’s progress through the legislative process. The communiqué said that California Governor Jerry Brown has until September 30 to sign, or veto, the legislation.
