Dubai, UAE: The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) will be making a key announcement on a new regulation the federal body shall be introducing, during the 2nd Annual Middle East HVAC Fire Safety Conference. The conference is on the May 22 in Dubai.

Essa AbdulRahman Al Hashmi, Director of Conformity Department at ESMA, said the regulation, to be introduced in June 2017, is related to the installation of electrical equipment in hazardous environments. The regulation, he added, is of relevance to the HVAC manufacturing community.

The conference, produced by CPI Industry, publishers of Climate Control Middle East magazine, and endorsed by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, UAE, will see strong participation from specialised fire safety consultants, contractors, master developers, developers and manufacturers of HVAC equipment. Among those confirmed so far include Peter Van Gorp, Director of Fire and Life Safety, AESG; Alexander Castellanos, Associate Director – Fire and Life Safety, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff; Khaled Derhalli, Operations Director, EFECO; and V.S. Shamim Rashid-Sumar, the President of the UAE International Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), member of the UAE Code Committee and the Director of Business Development (Middle East), Jensen Hughes, will be the Conference Chair.

The first edition of the conference, held in 2016, attracted widespread participation from the industry. One of the attendees, Anas Hadidi, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Mott MacDonald, said: “The conference was very rewarding for me. I was able to meet specialists in HVAC fire safety from all sectors.” Another attendee, Narayanan Govind, Manager Technical at Alserkal Establishment, described it as “an exceptionally relevant technical conference worth attending”. Yet another attendee, K Anbalagan, Managing Partner at Proleed Engineering Consultants, said, “The conference was a good effort to integrate the key elements of fire & life safety with the HVAC industry and the fire safety systems it offers.”

The 2017 edition is a PDH-programme conference, with the points to be awarded by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, UAE.
