Empower has announced that Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, led a delegation to Vienna, Austria, to participate in the Vienna Energy Forum 2015 and attended the Annual Partner Meeting of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) global District Energy in Cities initiative, held on June 18.

The initiative, said Empower, was aimed at better District Cooling efficiency in developing cities across the globe with the support of international funding agencies and banks.

β€œIn an effort to offer our expertise to cities [that have] started considering District Cooling, we have joined the global District Energy in Cities initiative launched by the United Nations Environment Programme,” said Bin Shafar. β€œA new report from UNEP has surveyed low-carbon developed cities worldwide to identify the key factors underlying their success in scaling up energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as in attaining targets for zero or low greenhouse gas emissions. District Energy Systems (DES) has emerged as a best practice approach for providing a local, affordable and sustainable energy supply, improve energy efficiency and support energy access efforts.” (See related story on page 62)
