Empower adopts ‘360 solution for metering Artificial Intelligence’

AIMS 360 is the first of its kind in the field of District Cooling, CEO says

Dubai, UAE, 25 July 2018: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the District Cooling services provider, announced the continuation of the ‘360 Solution for Metering Artificial Intelligence, AIMS 360’ project to align its corporate strategy with Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy, in a Press communiqué. This solution works to secure sustainable energy supply and enhance efficiency using advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in this sector, as it is currently witnessing high demand around the world, the communiqué said. This solution supports Empower’s strategic direction to meet the growing demand for District Cooling in Dubai, the communiqué further said.

According to Empower, its team developed the ‘360 Solution for Metering Artificial Intelligence, AIMS 360’ in 2014. After years of research and development, the team was able to fully implement the system in 2018, for more than 85,000 registered customers, the communiqué said. The project is a complete remote system for collecting meter reading data, which aims to efficiently manage District Cooling needs, at both ends of the process, in the entire region, the communiqué further said. The system is capable of round-the-clock data collection and is designed to serve customers with accurate billing requirements as well as automated detection and analysis of meter errors for debugging, the communiqué added.

Commenting on the solution, Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO, Empower, said: “Empower currently operates over 1.34 Million (Refrigeration Tonnes) RT, to more than 85,000 customers in Dubai. Due to the increased adoption of District Cooling services in Dubai, we have developed smart and innovative solutions to achieve operational excellence and provide the best District Cooling services to customers. In 2014, Empower studied the rapid growth in demand for District Cooling and considered the support needed to provide services to its customers, according to the highest international standards. After this study, the ‘360 Solution for Metering Artificial Intelligence, AIMS 360’ was launched.”

According to Empower, more than 1,000 buildings have been connected to this system. The main server is located at Empower’s headquarters, which is connected to all meters located in different areas of Dubai, the communiqué said. One of the system’s unique features is its ability to perform a dedicated and independent analysis, by accurately reading the meter in real time, thus, making the meter reading analysis easier for billing purposes and detecting errors, such as consumption waste and inappropriate use of District Cooling service, the communiqué further said. This helps balance the cooling consumption to avoid an increased bill value, the communiqué added.

The communiqué  also said Empower was globally recognised for its efforts when it received Honourable  mention at the IDEA Innovation Awards for the ‘360 Solution for Metering Artificial Intelligence, AIMS 360’, as part of the 109th International District Energy Association, IDEA, Annual Conference and Tradeshow 2018, held from June 11 to 14, 2018, in Vancouver, Canada.
