Metito was awarded the ‘Desalination Company of the Year–Distinction’ for its work in the area of desalination in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the communiqué said. In Saudi Arabia, Metito is developing the King Abdullah Economic City mega seawater desalination plant that utilises reverse osmosis technology and is partially powered by solar power, the communiqué further said. In Egypt, Metito developed the country’s largest seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant to date, serving more than 500,000 residents, and is currently working on even bigger capacity projects, the communiqué added.

The ‘Water Deal of the Year’ award was also given to Sub-Saharan Africa’s first bulk water supply public-private partnership project, in Kigali-Rwanda, being developed by Kigali Water Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Metito, the communiqué said.

Commenting on the awards, Rami Ghandour, Managing Director, Metito, said: “We are honoured to receive these distinguished international water awards from one of the industry’s most credible organisations, Global Water Intelligence. It is with immense pride that we are able to play an active role in empowering communities around the world through developing strategic water projects and pioneering business models that enable such capital-intensive water projects to be executed.”
