Dubai, UAE: In a press statement, Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) has announced celebrating 10 years of serving as an integral partner in achieving the ‘green vision’ of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at a recent event hosted for its members at the Sheraton Mall of the Emirates.

Formed with the goal of advancing Green Building principles that help protect the environment and foster sustainability, the Council, the statement said, has closely aligned itself with critical sustainability road maps of the UAE National Agenda 2021, the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy and Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030. With over 150 corporate members, the Council, it added, has made deep inroads into the construction and retrofitting sectors by offering professional training and workshops.

EmiratesGBC celebrates 10th Anniversary

EmiratesGBC’s co-founders, Habiba Al Marashi and Dr Sadek Owainati, and Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, shared their thoughts at the celebration event in the presence of EmiratesGBC members, the statement revealed.

Dr Owainati, the statement said, expressed how EmiratesGBC has played an instrumental role in introducing noticeable changes to the UAE’s construction industry and continues to serve as a hub for promoting principles of Green Buildings. He also shared how EmiratesGBC has had far-reaching impact beyond the UAE in driving Green Building Councils throughout the Middle East.

In 2010, EmiratesGBC, the statement informed, led the formation of the MENA Network of Green Building Councils, under the umbrella of WorldGBC. The council, it revealed, has also released three industry reports – ‘EmiratesGBC Technical Guidelines for Retrofitting Buildings’, ‘The EmiratesGBC Energy Efficiency program’ and ‘Energy & Water Benchmarking for UAE Hotels’.
